English-speaking therapist in Berlin: in-person and online sessions

If you are looking for an English-speaking therapist in Berlin, I offer individual, couples and family sessions in Schmargendorf, as well as online sessions for people in Berlin and across Europe.

Who I work with

Couples sessions

In couples therapy in English, we explore difficult conversations, needs for closeness or distance, and expectations within your relationship. If you have different first languages or cultural backgrounds, we can also consider how these influence communication and everyday decisions.

Couples Therapy

Individual sessions

You may prefer speaking English while establishing a life abroad, experiencing changes in a relationship or reconsidering your direction in life. We explore what concerns you alongside your circumstances and the relationships that matter to you.

Individual Therapy

Family sessions

For families whose shared language is English, we can work on differing expectations, relationships between generations and changing responsibilities. We discuss beforehand who will attend and how everyone can take part.

Family Therapy

Life abroad and relationships

Moving abroad for work or study can affect several parts of life. Leaving familiar surroundings, forming relationships and establishing routines take time. We can explore what these changes mean to you and what feels easier or more difficult.

In expat life, partners may experience the same move differently. One may be settling into a job while the other is building a social circle. Decisions about where to live, family relationships and shared responsibilities may need attention.

A shared language can still leave room for different meanings. We can pause at expressions that seem obvious and explain what each of you intends. We explore cultural differences through their place in your relationship.

My approach

My systemic approach considers what happens in relationships alongside each person's experience, family connections and circumstances. Bodily sensations, dreams and images can also become ways to express and explore your experience. We decide what to focus on together, taking your expectations into account.

Arrange an initial consultation

In a free 30-minute initial consultation, we can discuss what brings you here and how I work. If you are enquiring as a couple, we can use this time to hear each person's expectations and answer your questions.

You can also ask about the language of sessions or appointment options on WhatsApp.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a psychologist, a psychotherapist and a systemic therapist?

A psychologist has academic training in psychology. A psychotherapist has the professional training and legal authorisation required to practise psychotherapy. A systemic therapist has trained in systemic therapy; this training alone does not authorise someone to practise psychotherapy.

I am not a psychologist or a psychotherapist. I am a DGSF-certified systemic therapist. My work focuses on relationships, life difficulties and personal development. I do not diagnose or treat illnesses. If you need this kind of support, you should consult an appropriately qualified psychotherapist or psychiatrist.

Does English need to be our first language?

No. Both of you need to be able to follow the conversation and express yourselves sufficiently. We can consider during the initial consultation whether English works for you as a shared language.

Can we attend together if one of us speaks Turkish and the other has a different first language?

Yes. If you both communicate in English, we can hold sessions in English. I pay attention to each person's ability to understand the conversation and participate.
